Message from the organizer - Elizabeth Hello Dear Friends and Colleagues, Here is my revised invitation to an unconventional, yet traditional, fun and educational wisdom circle. Please, read for details and print out for directions. HISTORY Honor-Day is an inclusive, ceremonial family event based in native architectural philosophy. We gather once a year to celebrate the birth of the White Buffalo Calf and the prophesy associated with it--an honorable life for all. The Honor Day Foundation has been successively gathering around the hoops of the human experience since 2000. This year the Great Circle, facilitated by its foundress and director, Silversong Belcourt, will be held in Seattle at the Seattle Center on the annually observed date of August 20. She is very grateful for the fabulous response received from the City of Seattle in hosting this event. We have always had an arts and crafts venue, speakers and elders, sophisticated musical entertainment and the Great Circle where anyone can step up and speak about honor in their own lives, or what is pressing on their heart. LOCATION for BELLINGHAM EVENT This year I have taken on the last minute detail of hosting a downsized version of the event here in Bellingham at Maritime Heritage Park on August 26th (a week after the holiday for logistical reasons) from 2-6PM. Silversong and the crew will be present at this event. DIRECTIONS and PARKING Maritime Heritage Park is in Old Town Bellingham. Exit I-5N at Lakeway Drive and proceed west to the right of the exit. At the first stop light stay in the middle lane and go straight onto Holly Street through that converging intersection and follow it through a series of intersections downtown. Sorry about the construction. You will continue through five stop lights through town down a gradual hill. The park is at the base of that hill beyond the last light. Keep going through light at Bay St. and down about two blocks. Parking is up by the Whatcom Museum, the large red, historical city hall building to the right of the Bay St. light which turns into Prospect Street. (There is a stairway down to the park behind the museum where a George Rickey wind sculpture announces it); on the side streets around there of right near the Maritime Heritage Park on the right or left sides of the street. You can pull in and park temporarily if you need to unload. You will see an amphitheatre with steps, and a fountain. PARTICIPANTS We gratefully call on storytellers, artists, children acoustic musicians and people of all colors, races and denominations and ages to gather and share food and music for the social part, the first two hours at Maritime Heritage Park. The Great Circle will be cast with cedar boughs and the ceremony will begin at 4PM. Latecomers are welcome and if you cannot relate to all the fanfare, come as you are and we'll honor that as well. All re welcome. I need loving and generous people to help make this event happen, as it is for humanity. You are Honor Day. Please, spread the word in the form of this email to gather volunteers and interested folks. Please, forward this to any and all potential Honor Day participants or donors. I need some money for publicity. I look forward to celebrating our Honor Day Family Gathering with you. Thank you for making it out for Honor Day wherever you are. AGENDA From 2-4, I am asking people to share entertainment, stories, poetry, prayer and food. We are hoping for a nice day. I am planning to make a gathering of chairs and blankets, for picnic style gathering. Please, bring drums and rattles, and other instruments for musical accompaniment. Come in colorful regalia if you wish. At 4PM we will gather for the sacred circle honoring the Hoop of the Artist, the Creative Force and the coming year of the Hoop of the Spiritual Teachers. You can help me by sending this invitation to others so people all over the city and the world have the information. I may need help putting up posters around town, set-up etc. Call me at 360-647-3517 with questions or offerings, or go to HonorDay.org for more information. The Bellingham date is Sunday, August 26. Hietchka Ciem, My Hands are up to you! Thanks for your warm interest. Elizabeth AKA C'elle and Lisa Elizabeth Cardarelli cardare@cc.wwu.edu |
